What is Content Writing?

Content Writing Guide.

A content writer is a person who specializes in providing relevant written content for blogs, websites. social media posts and advertising campaigns. Websites, Blogs, Marketing & Advertising require relevant content to attract business. Content should contain keywords aimed at improving a website’s SEO. It can also help spread brand awareness for your business, product, or service.

Whenever we think of content writing we automatically think of digital marketing, content writing is the process of producing content, often for marketing purposes.

However content writing is much more than writing articles to sell a product or service, it could be storytelling, writing e-books, editorial articles, and press releases. Content writing is what engages the reader to be encapsulated and even entertained. Content writing is also a fundamental strategy used for search engine optimization, which by definition may include blog posts and website landing pages.

Content writing can also be email marketing such as newsletters and video or audio scripts. It has a broad meaning that relates to many different aspects of both print and digital media.

Copywriting vs content writing

Copywriting usually focuses on persuading the reader to view the product or service being sold with a short description and tag lines. It’s often short-form, appearing on ads, products. On the other hand, content writing by definition tends to be a longer-form, focusing primarily on informing, educating, and or even entertaining readers and it can also play an important role in search engine optimization.

Why is content writing important?

Content Writing is important to be able to optimize your niche or industry to spread awareness. Copywriters and copywriters must master the craft of high-quality content that is, unique and, engaging, and ultimately well-written.

As part of an SEO strategy, unique content that is not plagiarized will help search engines to rank your site to the top pages. Search engines love websites that produce frequent high-quality content that has keywords related to your business. People searching for keywords related to a product or service you are selling can find you online far easier if you have written content.

Securing Global Positioning Using Exact Match Keywords.

Keywords play an important role in SEO but they also help with lead generation if one uses exact match searchable keywords and phrases within the body of the content. However, in SEO matching your content with a domain name is another way to gain targeted traffic and establish yourself as an expert in your field.

Targeting An Audience

Everyone enjoys reading good quality informative engaging content. Content writing is a combination of storytelling, capturing the imagination of your audience, to writing articles, guides, and e-books. It can inspire, motivate, influence, and educate. High-quality content that is shared amongst readers, helps reach new people, spreading awareness for your business brand, whilst the keywords will generate traffic through search engine results.

Different types of content writing.

Owning your own blog or guest blog posting on other people’s blogs is by far one of the most important strategies in SEO. Writing content on other people’s blogs helps to create backlinks. Blogs may be focused on one niche or may act like an online magazine of many categories for serveral industries. As an example, our site covers all industries, and writing consistently helps build brand authority and awareness.

Email Marketing.

Whether you have a notification that you wish to share with your subscribers or a newsletter, emails are a good way to spread brand awareness and keep people informed on a daily or weekly basis.

Social Media Pages & Groups.

Whether you simply use your own profile or have a social media page or group, sharing content from your blogs to your own network and other people’s pages and groups will inevitably expand your audience. Video marketing also needs content writing and people like to watch videos which are good for advertising or entertainment purposes to attract more followers. This style of writing generally needs to be well thought out and stand out from the crowd.

Ad and Sale Copy.

Being able to story-tell and capture the audience’s attention through print or digital ads, sales copy must evoke emotions and persuade the audience to engage, using only a few words.

Product and Brand Content.

Product and Brand Content writing requires the writer to think outside of the box and be creative. The content writer needs to be innovative when selling products and services and needs to have a unique set of writing skills and balance sales copy with SEO and storytelling.

White Papers.

A report or guide is also known as a white paper that informs the reader concisely about an important and complex issue and presents the issuing body’s philosophy on the matter. It is meant to help readers understand an issue, solve a problem, or make a decision. A white paper requires in-depth research often in technical details. The report or guide is to inform and educate readers on how a problem has arisen and demonstrate how a problem is solved.

Is fact-based content that has been legitimately sourced and fact-checked for authenticity. It is where the writer uses original content not found elsewhere and perhaps backed with citations. Journalism could include press releases, newspaper articles, or editorials. Journalism is the production and distribution of reports on current events based on facts and supported with proof or evidence.

What does a content writer do?

Before writing an article the writer needs to do research on the subject matter. Research is by definition is the creative and systematic work undertaken to increase the stock of knowledge. Research involves the collection of data, and analysis of information to increase understanding of a topic in question. A research assignment may consist of the expansion of past published work or it could include new investigations.

Content writing may involve a wide spectrum of strategies and in some cases using SEO link wheels to generate backlinks. Content writing and marketing often form part of a wider strategy. A good content writer will be involved from the beginning of an assignment to the very end and will carefully map out how they envisage targeting their audience and generating traffic, researching keywords to creating their advertising campaign.

Depending on the assignment some content writing jobs may take longer than others, it all depends on the article or campaign and the research of the subject and industry. Some assignments maybe a few hundred words whilst others may be a few thousand. Content writers may take many hours meticulously collating data before crafting carefully thought out original content and in some cases may draft editions before final publication.

Whilst every effort is made to eliminate errors with spell checking this is a recipe for disaster. To the untrained eye, your content may be readable to you but to others, it may make no sense without using software that detects spelling, punctuation, and grammar errors.

Before publication, it is very important especially for editorials and branding adverts to proofread your work. Once a publication goes to print editing your own work will be virtually impossible to correct any errors, whilst digitally you still have some control to modify your articles. Quality and accuracy of your work are vital and it is important to have a second (and sometimes third) set of eyes to spot any mistakes.

Analyzing Your Conversions.

Most Website and Blog owners have some basic knowledge of data analytics and most will implement analytic tracking software to monitor and measure engagement and conversion rates.

Once the work has been published a content writer will have to either use pay-per-click advertising or share the content with his/her network across many social media channels using an SEO Link Wheel which may consist of many blogs and websites and email lists.
